About Missoula / University of Montana

The University of Montana is located in Missoula, a metropolitan area of 68,000 residents. Missoula is located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, 200 miles east of Spokane, WA. Our location provides a wonderful opportunity to combine an extended family vacation with the institute. Flathead Lake and Glacier National Park are north of Missoula, with Yellowstone National Park located to the southeast. Both are within a days’ drive of Missoula. The beautiful Bitterroot Mountains and scenic wilderness areas are a few miles south, while the captivating mountains of the Idaho panhandle are west. Recreational opportunities in the Missoula area include hiking, biking, fishing, camping, rafting, golf, tennis, and swimming. There are no institute classes on Wednesday afternoon so that families can explore the area.

The University of Montana is located at the base of Mount Sentinel near the Clark Fork of the Columbia River. Founded in 1893, the University has a current enrollment of 11,000 students. The Department of Music, which offers degrees in performance, music education, and composition/music technology, has 160 majors.
