2011 Summer Session
July 10th through July 15th

Registration Currently Closed

Welcome

to the website of the Montana Suzuki Strings Institute. I hope you will browse the site and consider joining us in July for student violin courses, Book 2 and 4 teacher development courses.

We offer pre-Twinkle through advanced playing in both violin in the relaxed atmosphere of the Rocky Mountains at the University of Montana in Missoula. The University Campus has been the institute home for the past 26 years providing us the use of the music building, housing and meal services. Families return year after year because of the quality of the institute and its surroundings. A unique aspect of this institute is the “Wednesday afternoon off” which allows participants to enjoy some of the activities in and around Missoula. Some of these include tubing down the Clark Fork or Blackfoot Rivers, hiking nearby trails, biking in the city or country, eclectic shopping or learning more about the journeys of Lewis and Clark. There are also blue ribbon trout streams in the area to catch the attention of anglers.

Our faculty provides the best Suzuki instruction for your child. Each faculty member is a highly trained, experienced teacher. Master classes provide new ideas for parents and students alike. Technique classes focus on skills at your Childs’ playing level. Repertoire classes provide an opportunity for your child to experience the joy of playing as well as experimenting with newer pieces. We are very proud of our Missoula teachers who have offered their skills in music and movement for younger players, African drumming as one of the most sought after enrichment classes learning rhythms and ensemble playing, fiddling and improvisation classes which provide students with a chance to try new venues with their instruments. New this year there will be a beginning note reading and orchestra class taught in a very unique way. There are also orchestras for intermediate and advanced readers.

Teacher development is an important part of any institute, and I am pleased to announce that there will be units 2 and 4 for violin.

As director of this institute for the last five years it has been encouraging to me to see the interest in the institute and the potential it has for becoming a center for Suzuki education in the Montana area. There is lots of music in Missoula. I hope you will join us at this institute for wonderful instruction, a beautiful setting and the friendliness of all who are involved.
